Building in the canton of Zurich

The canton of Zurich is the most populous in Switzerland — construction activity here is correspondingly dense and varied. New builds are created under very different conditions: densification and replacement construction in the city of Zurich and the Limmat valley, residential and commercial buildings in the growing municipalities of the Glatt valley, industrial and utility buildings around Winterthur, plus schools, care facilities and administrative buildings in larger centres such as Uster, Dübendorf, Dietikon, Wetzikon, Bülach and Wädenswil.

The more rural regions — the Zurich Oberland, Weinland, Unterland and the Knonaueramt — also produce new-build projects continuously, often on a smaller scale and with different demands on access, choice of materials and integration into the local setting. The references on this page reflect that range.

Which new builds are documented here

This selection covers exclusively projects of the construction type new build located in the canton of Zurich — from single-family and apartment buildings to residential developments and care homes, through to schools, kindergartens, commercial and industrial buildings, warehouses and logistics facilities, administrative buildings as well as sports and leisure facilities.

Conversions, renovations, storey additions and deconstructions are deliberately not included: they are a construction type of their own and can be found through the project search.

What a reference contains

Every reference stands for a structure that was actually built. Documented are photographs, building type, construction type, location and year of completion, along with the companies involved in the work — depending on the project: clients, specialist planners, main contractor, timber construction, building envelope, building services, interior fit-out or landscaping.

The information comes from research by Losys GmbH and in part from the firms involved. From each project page you can reach the profiles of the companies involved and from there their further references — including outside the canton of Zurich.

Anyone planning a construction project in the canton of Zurich is rarely looking for a list of companies, but for demonstrated experience: who has already built something comparable — of similar size, similar use, under similar conditions and ideally in the region? That is exactly what these references are for. They show completed structures rather than declarations of intent, and make it traceable who contributed to them.
