Biogen is one of the oldest independent biotechnology companies and was founded in Geneva in 1978. A state-of-the-art biopharmaceutical production facility was built in Luterbach near Solothurn. With its commissioning in 2019, up to 600 new jobs will be created. In addition to the production facilities, the Luterbach plant also includes laboratories, offices, utility buildings and a warehouse.
