The new building «Frutt Family Lodge & Melchsee Apartments» is located on the Obwalden Melchsee, in the middle of the «Melchsee-Frutt» ski area at approximately 1900 meters above sea level. The four-star hotel with 47 suites and rooms as well as 43 holiday apartments are distributed across four building structures. As keystones, they mark the transition from the village to the lake. The architecture adopts the locally customary building form of the detached gable house and is reminiscent of mountain huts. However, the heavy building structures appear to hover above the glazed base structure – like the reflection of the mountains in the lake.
The hotel and holiday apartments are accessed via the shared reception courtyard and base structure and open to the south and east towards mountain and lake panoramas.
The base structure houses reception, restaurant, bar and administration in the east, as well as holiday apartments in the west. The building structures above contain hotel rooms and additional holiday apartments. In the basement is the wellness area with views of the lake.
Like the exterior, the interior also follows the image of the refined mountain hut: outside the rawness of the mountain world, inside the coziness of a modern, alpine style. Sequences of spacious and intimate rooms alternate, creating sight lines and cozy corners.
