St. Moritz is an important location for Swiss youth hostels, as the Engadin Valley offers an inexhaustible variety for its guests. Therefore, it was time for the youth hostel "Top ... of the world" to reach standard.
Architects Bosch & Heim from Chur succeeded in bringing the building to the highest level in terms of heating and energy efficiency. Wood chips and solar energy are used exclusively for heating, renewable energy sources, building materials comply with ECO-Bau guidelines, and all new building components meet the MINERGIE® standard. In summer, 24 young people from Kenya, Poland, the USA and Switzerland installed a 160 m2 photovoltaic system and a 60 m2 thermal solar system on the roof as part of Greenpeace's Youth Solar Project.
