Small buildings in residential settlements
The residents of BGO cycle a lot. The old bike shelters and the container storage area had become run-down, overcrowded and no longer met the needs. The shrubs between the buildings had also grown so densely that they overwhelmed the open space and made it appear dark.
Both access to the residential buildings and the materialization were unsatisfactory.
In 2014/2015, a larger enclosed bike shed was planned and built between the residential buildings at Langmauerstrasse 60 and 66. It consists of a metal/wood construction with extensively green roof and provides space for 36 bicycles. Centralizing the parking spaces in one building acts as a clarification of the situation. With wooden materialization and only slightly sloped roof, the volume can integrate discretely into the surroundings.
The container storage area, previously bordered with railway sleepers, was newly built with a climbing trellis, directly along the base wall next to the street.
The access paths were redesigned so that today direct access from the buildings to the bike shelter and container storage is possible. The planting of the border to the street was loosely planted with flowering shrubs and perennials according to the neighboring front gardens.
