Hardhof: Relocation and renovation of wastewater sewers
In the Hardhof area, the sewer system crosses the groundwater protection zone of the water supply on its way to the Werdhölzli treatment plant and the retention basin on Werdinsel. This groundwater is processed into drinking water. To prevent groundwater contamination, strict requirements must be observed in this area. The sewers located in the center of the groundwater protection zone are approximately 70 years old and do not meet these requirements. They must therefore be relocated out of the groundwater protection zone as far as possible. The sewers remaining in the outer area of the groundwater protection zones will be renovated. An additional coating ensures maximum impermeability of these sewers.
In the course of these works, the Civil Engineering Department will also renew the sewer system, water line and road surface in Meierwiesenstrasse and improve fire protection with three new above-ground hydrants. Following these works, the road surface will be restored and signage, wayfinding and markings will be installed.
Construction work is scheduled to begin in November 2007 and is expected to last until October 2009. Traffic connections will be maintained throughout the construction period.
