20,000 m2 of offices at the Montbrillant Postal Centre
Swiss Post is investing CHF 80 million to renovate the Montbrillant Postal Centre, located near Cornavin Station in Geneva. Work is scheduled to begin this spring and be completed in 2012. Post Office activities will be maintained and the post office will benefit from an additional counter. Free spaces will be leased to the Cantonal Employment Office and the Cantonal Social Insurance Office. This investment will enhance the Montbrillant site and integrate it into the master plan developed by the City of Geneva.
Following the implementation of the mail processing modernization project, the Geneva Montbrillant Postal Centre has concentrated its activities on a single floor, leaving a large space available. To best develop this ideally located site for postal operations and staff, near Cornavin Station in central Geneva, Swiss Post is investing CHF 80 million. Built in 1984, the building will be renovated. Work is scheduled to begin this spring and be completed in 2012.
The spaces no longer occupied by Post, approximately 20,000 m2, will be leased to third parties. The Cantonal Employment Office (OCE) and the Cantonal Social Insurance Office (OCAS) will be long-term tenants. In addition to Post staff, approximately 800 people will be active at the site.
Better services for customers
To best accommodate this new influx of people, Post will adapt its structures. Thus, the post office will be completely renovated and the number of counters will increase from 5 to 6. A second Postomat will be put into service. Mailboxes will be installed on the ground floor near the counter for commercial customers. Finally, the staff restaurant will be modernized and will have greater capacity. Throughout the work period, Post activities will be maintained.
The development of the site is part of the Nursery-Cornavin-Montbrillant master plan being developed by the City of Geneva. It allows Post to continue its activities in the postal centre while developing better use of available land.
