The KV Schulhaus Lenzburg at Aavorstadt 2 is undergoing comprehensive renovation in its interior and exterior areas.
Built in 1759/60 by Markus Hünerwadel, owner of the Lenzburg Indienne printing works, as a trading house. Interesting architecture symbiosis shaped by its purpose: The façade of an urban palace (representation) combines with the voluminous roof reminiscent of a Bernese farmhouse (storage space). Augustin Keller ran the first Aargau teacher training college here from 1836 to 1846.
The large building served the city as a school until 1903 for all school levels, until 1930 for the district school, until 1977 for vocational training, and to this day for commercial vocational school. For the latter, it was converted in 1980/81 and given a corresponding façade in memory of the arcades that existed on the west side until 1945. The clock face in the gable and the bell hanging above it come from the tower of the Lower Town Gate, demolished in 1841. The school building has been under cantonal monument protection since 1960.
