St. Gallen Cantonal Council Chamber

The Cantonal Council Chamber was already renovated in 1981, with seating arranged in an arena format facing the presidency tribune. However, the building's historic architectural style was not completely abandoned. The walls are still decorated with coat-of-arms medallions of the historic domains that merged into the Canton of St. Gallen in 1803. On the ceiling, female figures represent the cornerstones of a well-functioning state system. Additionally, winged beings remind parliamentarians of the culture of political debate: calm, balance, moderation, and gentleness.
