With the construction of the New Railway Alpine Crossing (NEAT), a fast and efficient rail connection is being created. The centerpiece is the two base tunnels at the Gotthard and Ceneri. The new rail connection runs through the Alps with minimal gradients and wide curves. The highest point is only 550 meters above sea level, the height of the city of Bern.
