LCA Supercomputing Center
For the implementation of the national strategy of the ETH Board in high-performance computing (HPCN), the Federal Council and the Federal Assemblies decided in the 2010 budget on the construction of the new LCA (Supercomputing Center) for the Swiss Scientific Computing Center (CSCS) in Lugano-Cornaredo. The building planning includes an expansion for the computing section. Due to their 'data center strategy', ETH Zurich also requires highly equipped spaces for its computer clusters. Therefore, ETH Zurich wants to take advantage of the synergies currently available in the Canton of Ticino to cost-effectively create additional space for ETH Zurich's clusters.
The high energy consumption, which causes a large part of a data center's operating costs, can be significantly reduced through concentration and efficient building technology. In worldwide comparison with other data centers, the LCA will achieve top-level performance in energy efficiency.
