Exclusive and elegant, but not ostentatious,
that is, in a nutshell, the
description of the city resort that
opened on April 3, 2008,
which, according to Managing Director Thomas
Schmid, will position itself
in the top tier of international luxury
hotellerie.
New Overall Project
The new overall project by Foster
and Partners places the main building
back at the center and thus preserves
the core identity of the Dolder. All
asymmetrical extension buildings
erected after 1899 had to be removed.
Additionally, the restaurants
in the southern location were to be retained and the
main entrance was to be relocated from north to
south, as in the original
building concept of 1899. This resulted
in the first visualization with a driveway
that leads to the entrance. Beneath it
lies the Garden Restaurant. With these
changes, however, the need arose
to compensate for the eliminated hotel rooms.
An extension building
in an "organic" form, which
cuddles up to the existing building, was
the solution. Two new wings, Spa Wing
and Golf Wing, nestle against the
main building and connect the past
with the future. The northern
contact point in the center
between old and new building is marked by the
oval ballroom.
