Sechseläutenplatz Zurich - Opus One
The present project 'opus one' emerged as the winner of a three-stage, internationally advertised design competition.
Through the proposed concept, the opera house receives a prominent position directly on the square. The Bellevue with its valuable tree groups was included in the urban planning considerations, as were the adjoining facade alignments.
A representative city square is newly created as an extended stage for the opera house (i.e., deliberately not a square by the lake) made of natural stone parquet with diverse uses and development possibilities, which should primarily be available to the public.
Generously positioned, distinctive tree clusters (clumps) of varying sizes and densities dance playfully like ballerinas on the hard surface and offer high recreational potential.
