The Art Nouveau building, constructed in 1912, served as a community center and fire station. The construction of a community center was, from the perspective of the time, "an absolute necessity" (Municipal Chronicle 1911). The population had increased by more than half from 1870 to 1910 to over 8000 inhabitants. This required the municipal administration to have more personnel and more space.
