In the south. House D – the forest as an architectural concept.
House D of the Citygate project on Zeughausstrasse in Basel is being built and will house new retirement apartments in the future.
The facade supports are strongly reminiscent of tree trunks. Just as trees structure the view to the sky, the seemingly irregularly articulated facade opens up the view into the surrounding forest. The building meets the standards of a Minergie house. 35 earth probes, which reach up to 180 meters into the ground, generate heat in winter and cooling in summer via two heat pumps, which is necessary for a pleasant living climate. The Swiss company Senevita AG has leased the entire building. As a facility specializing in assisted living and care for the elderly, «Senevita Gellertblick» offers elderly people perfect conditions for a retirement home with the highest quality of life.
