- EPFL asked Equans Switzerland to manage and undertake the complete renewal of its heating and cooling infrastructure. Their goal: moving away from fossil fuels towards 100% renewable energy.

- In its capacity as general contractor, Equans Switzerland was responsible for all aspects of the project, from design to implementation.
The heart of the system is a thermal power station, which was refurbished and expanded to accommodate four heat pumps with a total capacity of 24 MW, as well as two emergency gas boilers. A new structure on the building houses a data centre, the roof and façades of which are covered with photovoltaic panels.
A new pumping station and a new lake pipeline were constructed on the shores of Lake Geneva, doubling the pumping capacity of the installations serving both the EPFL and the University of Lausanne to 2'700 litres/second.
In addition to these major works, the hydraulic network was expanded through the construction of new pipelines. The heat and gas distribution networks have also been reinforced.
