- Sustainable innovation for the energy transition
- Lead Text
- The Umwelt Arena is a reference project for energy efficiency. Cutting-edge technology means that this flagship project runs exclusively on renewable energy. Equans Switzerland developed and implemented the concept for the complex building technology and the building automation.
- Beschreibung 1
- The interactive exhibition spaces at the Umwelt Arena Schweiz in Spreitenbach present innovative solutions for mobility, energy, nutrition and consumption, as well as environmentally friendly construction and living. Conference and event rooms also provide space for up to 2'500 people.
Cutting-edge technology means that the popular event location runs entirely without the help of oil or gas. Instead, energy is taken from the earth, water and sunlight. A photovoltaic system was installed across the whole of the surface of the roof, which covers an area of 5'300 m2, or around 20 tennis courts. The Umwelt Arena thereby not only meets its own energy requirements; it also supplies electricity to an additional 120 households. The building is heated and cooled by means of systems such as thermal activation of the concrete components. There are large storage tanks for heating and cooling, ensuring that excess energy is not lost.
- Titel Abschnitt 2
- Control by means of smart building automation
- Beschreibung 2
- The complex system for heating and cooling is controlled using a Priva building automation system that was designed and supplied by Equans Switzerland. The main requirement for the building automation was to ensure an optimal climate in the Umwelt Arena and to operate the systems as efficiently as possible. The Energy Mirror from Priva, which provides an impressive visualisation of the building’s energy use, was used for the first time. All sustainability data can be continuously displayed on a panoramic screen, which also shows the building’s use of resources and compares its CO2 emissions to similar buildings.
