Increasing space problems at the university institutes of the University of Zurich (UZH) and dilapidated buildings led to the decision to construct an extension building to the Plattenstrasse 14 building. The project by Gunz & Künzle Architekten from Zurich emerged from an anonymous design competition. It provides 150 office workspaces and 120 study workspaces for the Institute for Banking and Finance and the Institute for Business Administration. Access to the six-storey new building is via the existing main entrance of Plattenstrasse 14. The building meets the requirements of the Minergie-P-Eco standard. Large windows provide sufficient natural lighting. A photovoltaic system on the roof supplies electricity for cooling the study workspaces and offices.
