The Vitasana building and settlement cooperative is replacing part of its residential buildings on the Luegisland site with new constructions. The proposal by Galli & Rudolf Architekten and André Schmid Landschaftsarchitekten, both based in Zurich, emerged from a design competition.
The project envisions four new buildings with four to seven storeys for the southern part of the site, achieving good integration into the surroundings despite the high density. The garden city character typical of Schwamendingen with its flowing green spaces is preserved.
The size and design of the apartments are diverse based on the different building types and are oriented towards different users. The development will consist of 106 generously sized 2½- to 4½-room apartments meeting the Minergie P standard, plus additional retail and office spaces.
