New Indian Lion Enclosure, Zurich Zoo
In approximately two and a half years, a spacious and varied enclosure has been created on 1,700 square meters. The new enclosure with indoor cage and two outdoor areas corresponds to the natural habitat of the Indian lion and its way of life, and has ten times more space than the old enclosure. It offers retreats, space to play, to laze about, to quarrel and to eat. In the new 120m² information center titled "Man and Lion – The Relationship Between Fear and Reverence," visitors are informed about the history of the lion, about its significance in our culture as well. The lion is regarded as a symbol of power and is also revered in our culture. Who doesn't know the Lion Monument in Lucerne and the lions on Zurich's trams.
