Renovation of Egliseestrasse 60

The former Ciba-Geigy/Novartis apprentice dormitory at Egliseestrasse 60 is being energetically renovated and converted into a residential building with six apartments and an office floor, used by Leben in Vielfalt, later by social services. As a pilot for continuing to build within existing stock, concrete facade elements are being reused; hemp and cork replace conventional insulation materials and reduce embodied energy. The vegetated flat roof combines photovoltaics with biodiversity; native planting characterizes the outdoor spaces.
